Sheffield Architect, CODA Studios Ltd, came up with a revolutionary new idea to create space inside shipping containers for new start up businesses in Sheffield. When they approached Ability Lifts to see if they could help provide a lift that would fit in a container, it was understandably met with not only curiosity, but also a deep desire to be part of something very new and exciting.
Described by CODA Architects as “hip hidyholes” the KRYNKL Containers (derived from the corrugated steel they are made from) would house a variety of different businesses, from fine dining to leisure and health businesses, complete with a partial covered rooftop bar to enable employees to finish the day off with a place to relax and unwind.
A large local project management team, Crossbow Construction took control of the scheme and they gathered the key players to take it from concept to reality, with Ability Lifts Ltd being selected to provide their flagship Optimum 100 Platform lift.
Serving 4 floors and travelling nearly 9 metres was always going to be difficult, given the limitations imposed, such as space and type of environment in which the lift would be situated.
The design and drive system of the Optimum 100 Platform Lift made it the perfect choice. It requires a footprint of just 1590mm x 1280mm whilst providing a fully compliant Part M Platform size of 1480mm long x 1120mm wide due to the gearless chain drive design (capable of glass on 4 sides). No structural supports are required due to the loads being transferred through the floor base. Combined with the fact that the lift has very low maintenance requirements, it was the perfect choice.
Since KRYNKL opened for businesses in December 2016, the lift has been regularly used by all of the businesses offering a invaluable connection between floors when called upon and required.
