Jessops, A New Concept And A New Lift
When Jessops were given the opportunity to relocate to a prime location on the outer edge of the Arndale centre they wanted to introduce the already tried and tested Shop in Shop concept, the concept puts the emphasis on ‘touch and try’, from taking the picture, through editing to print.
To make maximum use of the floor space on the ground and first floor and solve the access problems for the less able a platform lift was required. Due to the layout of the store and the need to make as little impact as possible to the fabric of the building the obvious choice had to be Ability Lifts Optimum 100. The totally free standing self supporting lift was fitted in the only suitable location, which happened to be next to the large picture window. To keep as much natural light as possible flooding into the store and to maintain the clean lines and the open feel the Optimum 100 was fully glazed from floor to ceiling. A ramp was used to access the lift on the lower level as the usual 60mm pit wasn’t possible. Because the motor is housed within the lift structure at the upper level it makes the Optimum 100 is a much smoother and quieter ride than traditional screw lifts where the motors ride with the platform, this also negates the need for separate motor rooms meaning less space is used and there is no danger of oil leakage.
Due to the time and space constraints (the shop fitters, electricians and other tradesmen were also on site) the ease of the Optimum 100 installation was essential, the Optimum 100 is built ground up and all parts will pass through normal doors.
Requiring only a solid floor and a 10 electrical supply Ability Lifts were able to hand over a fully CE marked within two days.
