Ability Lifts and BARLA in Unison
The Trade Union, Unison, have over 11000 members in the Kirklees area, around 3000 of these work within the ring road close to the new Kirklees Unison Branch Office, the building was taken on a 15 year lease from its owners the British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA).
The building was much larger than the union’s old building on Queen Street but unfortunately was not DDA compliant and had access problems, due to the age and layout of the building. After a careful selection process Ability Lifts of Sheffield were chosen to provide disabled access to all levels of the building.
Driven by a patented drive system that saves up to 75% of the energy used on other types and not requiring any lateral support from the building the Optimum 100 platform lift was the ideal solution, serving 3 floors over 7 metres of travel and fitted with automatic doors and a security key switch at the ground level to prevent unauthorised use.
A hard wearing white powder coat finish is further complimented by the architect’s specification of a renewable source non slip linoleum floor and stainless steel handrail.
