Ability Lifts were approached by Project Co-ordinator Sue Fowler earlier this year as she began co-ordinating a community project in the Village of Blakedown, Worcestershire to rebuild a redundant signal box for use as a small local history Museum.
They were hoping to include in the building a small platform / through the ceiling lift to allow wheelchair access to the upper floor.
The space was restricted and a lift would need to fit into a recess of 1230mm deep, with a maximum travel of 3 metres. The lower section of the shaft would be brick built and the upper section would be a timber frame.
Ability Lifts visited the site and met with Sue and Local Builder, Steve of Holland Contracting Ltd, who were a little unsure about installing a platform lift so were delighted with the early assistance in terms of Builders work advice and the setting out of ground floor base, floor recess and electrics required etc… The builders commented “it was reassuring to have Ability Lifts on hand when we needed a site visit as we had not installed a platform lift before and with a tight programme to achieve were grateful for their on site advice.”
Ability Lifts also went back to assist Sue further as the lift installation approached, to perform a final site check to review completed builders and electrical works prior to the simple 2 day installation, ensuring success all round.
